Texas-Oklahoma Preview

The college football landscape is set to change pretty drastically after this season — so much so that I can’t even keep track of all the schools switching conferences. But can ya blame me? Take a look for yourself…it’s about to get weird 😈

• Stanford and Cal in in the ACC? 18 teams in the Big Ten? I mean c’mon, at some point these conferences gotta at least consider a name change, right?

• The Big 12, which added four new teams this season (BYU, Cincinnati, Houston & UCF) will bring in four more teams next year from the dissolving PAC-12 (Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado & Utah). But on the flip side, the conference’s two most prominent programs are headed elsewhere

• For over a century (118 games), the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma has regularly featured some of college football’s best teams. But starting in 2024, that showdown will take place in the SEC…the rich keep getting richer

Before all that happens, we’re due one last battle in the Big 12, and the finale comes with some of the highest stakes in a long time. This Saturday’s meeting in Austin between the Longhorns and Sooners has serious CFP and Heisman implications — check out how the odds are shaping up 👇

Oklahoma vs. Texas Betting Preview _{(subject to change)}

• Spread: Texas -6.5

• Moneyline: Texas -260, Oklahoma +210

• Over/Under: 60.5

• When: 12PM EST on ABC

For the 43rd time, these two teams will duke it out while each ranked in the Top-25. But since the start of the CFP era, we haven’t seen either side of the Red River ranked in the top four ahead of this matchup…until now 👀

• #3 Texas has a serious case for this season’s most impressive team so far with nothing but double-digit wins on their resume, including one in Tuscaloosa over then-#3 Alabama. The most recent was a dominant showing against the 24th-ranked Jayhawks

The 49-point outing may have featured his first INT of the season, but with 325 passing yards and 3 total TDs otherwise, the Quinn Ewers hype train isn’t slowing down. He currently has the third-best Heisman odds (+700), and a big performance this weekend could have his stock soaring even higher 📈

• If Ewers is looking for a signature Heisman moment, the stage doesn’t get much bigger than this. Neither team currently has another ranked opponent on their schedule, so the winner would be in prime position to earn a CFP invitation

#12 Oklahoma may not be getting the same level of national attention as their rivals, but they’ve been just as dominant so far, with five double-digit wins of their own. Big 12 passing leader Dillon Gabriel (1,593 yards and 15 TDs) is building a Heisman case himself (+2000)…but he and the rest of the Sooners have yet to be truly tested 🤔

The Sooner offense that currently checks in as the country’s third-most explosive against a Longhorn defense allowing less than two TDs a game…should be one heck of a battle. But when you factor in that Texas has Ewers, as well as the nation’s third-leading rusher in Jonathon Brooks…

…I gotta give the edge in this one to boys in burnt orange. Especially in front of a roaring home crowd. Hook ‘Em 🤘
