Best of the Best

After a pair of upsets on Sunday, no team in the NFL remains unscathed. Every team has dropped at least a game, as the real contenders have begun to separate themselves from the rest. Now, however, five teams are tied for the best record in football, with four more teams sitting just a game behind, a group that collectively makes up a quarter of the 32-team league 👏

It’s crazy we’re already at Week 7, and here’s how Vegas has priced Super Bowl odds with a third of the season in the books. One of the tighter odds races we’ve seen in a while 💸

  • 49ers, 5-1: +440

  • Chiefs, 5-1: +500

  • Eagles 5-1: +750

  • Bills, 4-2: +900

  • Cowboys, 4-2: +1000

  • Dolphins, 5-1: +1000

  • Lions, 5-1: +1300

  • Ravens, 4-2: +1500

  • Jaguars, 4-2: +2700

Since anything can happen over the course of the remaining dozen games, who you play can be nearly as important as how well you play 👀

  • Of this group, Baltimore has by far the toughest remaining strength of schedule (2nd in the NFL), while Dallas (4th), Miami (5th), Philly (9th), and SF (10th) trail close behind

  • On the other end of the spectrum, the Lions (31st) have a cakewalk to close out their season, including two more games against the backup-led, down bad Bears

Here are some of the other biggest storylines to watch for as the season unfolds 👇

  • The 49ers looked invincible when their 5-0 start culminated in a beatdown of the Cowboys, but an ugly loss to the Browns that included injuries to both Deebo and CMC has left them looking a bit more mortal

  • Lamar’s up-and-down play has left the Ravens looking a bit boom or bust, but their star-studded defense led by All Pro backer Roquan Smith keeps their floor on any given Sunday pretty high

  • After out-talenting opponents to five straight wins, the Eagles’ first loss came in a game where Jalen Hurts threw three picks and they lost their starting right tackle, a crucial link in their supercharged O-line

  • Playing through a possible shoulder injury, Josh Allen gutted out an ugly second-half comeback over the Giants. You tell me, was this a penalty?

Back to Detroit, Dan Campbell’s gang not only has the easiest path to the playoffs, but some real reasons to believe they can make some noise if they get there. Since ringing in the 2023 NFL season with a win over the Chiefs, the Lions’ only loss came in overtime against a frisky, 3-2 Seahawks team 🦅

Also, emerging from what was hailed as one of the best tight end crops in recent years, Tight End U product Sam LaPorta looks like a superstar in the making 💪

  • His 18 catches through his first three games was the most ever for a TE to start their NFL career

  • He is tied for the lead in receiving touchdowns at the position, and trails only Travis Kelce in receiving yards. His stats to date compare favorably to some of the GOAT tight ends’ rookie campaigns

Paired with superstar WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jared Goff’s resurgence as one of the NFL’s most trustworthy quarterbacks, along with an Aidan Hutchinson-led defense that is allowing the sixth-fewest yards per game, the Lions could easily be the best value Super Bowl bet at +1300 💰
