The last NFL team to win a game will be...

Not everyone can win, it's how the NFL works....check out which team Vegas expects to start the season with the longest losing streak ☠️ (3 minute read). Written by Cooper Halpern

Can You Say Winless

At +250 (bet $100, win $250), the Detroit Lions are the heavy favorite to open the 2021 season with the longest losing streak. After finishing last season 5-11, Detroit was only the seventh-worst team in the NFL, but they’ve decided to steer into a full-blown rebuild and enter 2021 with the sixth toughest schedule of any team

  • Week 1: Lions vs 49ers

  • Week 2: Lions @ Packers

  • Week 3: Lions vs Ravens

  • Week 4: Lions @ Bears

Next Up

Jumping up to +450, the Houston Texans have the second-best odds of staying winless for longer than any other team, largely due to the assumption that Deshaun Watson will remained sidelined for much of the season

Despite being the odds-on favorites to land the first pick in the draft next season (awarded to the team with the NFL’s worst record), the Texans have easier games than the Lions on the schedule

  • Week 1: Texans vs Jaguars

  • Week 3: Texans vs Panthers

  • Week 15: Texans @ Jaguars

If you believe in Trevor Lawrence, losses to the Jaguars set the Texans up for a brutal 17-game record and might be worth a bet at +450

Tied For Third

We have a three-way tie for third place on teams that will stay winless the longest:

  • Eagles/Jets/Raiders: +1000

The Eagles and Jets are both riding new QBs, as Philly and NY have gone all in on Jalen Hurts and Zach Wilson. While wins might be scarce, these two franchises will live with the growing pains that come with young Quarterbacks

The Raiders, however, are in a different boat. Coming off of four consecutive seasons with a losing record under Derek Carr, three of which came under Jon Gruden, Oakland can’t afford a slow start. Although they have the eighth-toughest schedule, and the second-toughest among the probable bottom-dwellers, the Raiders are coming off an 8-8 season. Don’t expect them to win you this bet

Winless History

Over the past two decades, at least one team has started the season with 10+ consecutive losses in 10 different seasons

Last year, the 1-15 Jets opened up with 13 straight defeats. The year before that, the Bengals started 0-11, and finished 2-14. Unless all five teams above notch a win in the first third of their games, one of them is likely to go at least half the season without a win

With that in mind, smart money should be on the Jets to open the 2021 NFL season with the longest losing streak, given their history of losing and four-times better odds than the front-running Lions (+1000 vs +250)
