The Rocket Mortgage Classic

The summer swing (haha!) of the PGA Tour season continues, as a field of 156 golfers head to the Motor City to take on Detroit Golf Club. The golfers making the trip round out a field that is stronger than what we saw last week in Minnesota, as everyone looks to make their final push heading into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Take a look at the current standings 👇

Detroit Golf Club 👇

  • Donal Ross Design (he is best known for designing Pinehurst #2)

  • 7,370 yard par-72 layout

  • Easier than normal course, with the winning score predicted in the range of -20

Patrick Cantlay enters the week as the betting favorite, being that he is the only golfer currently inside the Top-10 of the World Golf Rankings competing 📈

  • A handful of other golfers inside the Top-20 will be in attendance, and for reference, this tournament did represent a break-through victory for Cameron Davis at the 2021 event

  • There should be some value to find outside of just the one or two names atop the betting board

  • Patrick Cantlay: +1000 (bet $100 to win $1000)

  • Tony Finau: +1300

  • Will Zalatoris: +1400

  • Cameron Young: +1600

  • Max Homa: +2200

Potential Break-Out Options

The two names that immediately stand out as the favorites to capture their first PGA Tour victory this weekend are Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris. Both have been playing some remarkable golf this season, and just haven't been able to close out an event down the stretch. That storyline could change this week in Detroit 👀

Young has been at the top of leaderboards throughout this PGA Tour season and has done everything imaginable, besides win. He's been in contention at majors, posted a number of top-10s, and has established himself as one of the best drivers on tour 🏌️‍♀️

Check out some highlights of his season 👇

  • Ranks 2nd on the PGA Tour in Total Driving

  • Has six top-10 finishes this season, including a 2nd at The Open

  • Has climbed all the way up to 19th in the Official World Golf Rankings

If you asked golf experts "who is the best golfer on tour who has never won?", it may be unanimously Will Z. He has been the definition of consistent this season, especially in the majors, finishing top-30 in all four. It's shocking that he hasn't been able to seal the deal at an event yet, but his time is coming, and it's almost certainly coming soon ⏲

  • Ranks 1st on the PGA Tour in Approach

  • Has eight top-10s this season, including three runner-ups

  • Currently sits inside the top-10 of the FedEx Cup standings

Trivia Question: What previous Rocket Mortgage Classic winner was just dropped by Rocket Mortgage as a sponsor due to his transfer to the LIV Golf Tour? (answer below)

Favorite Outright Betting Value

While there are definite cases to be made for the names mentioned above, we're going to dive deeper down the board to try to find some value picks that could vault their way into contention this weekend 💰

Max Homa (+2200): This play didn't work for us overseas at The Open, but there were some factors outside of Max's control that week. For the first time in his career, he was paired with Tiger Woods, which can lead to nerves and chaos for any golfer. Also, the luck of weather did not go his way. We're going right back to Max this week, as he is one of the only golfers near the top of the board with plenty of experience winning 🏆

Kevin Kisner (+3700): When looking through the field this week, we are searching for elite putters like Kisner, who currently sits 13th on tour in total putting. This week should see plenty of birdies, so whoever gets hot with the putter should rocket up the leaderboard

Troy Merritt (+6000): Some golfers just feel comfortable at specific courses, as for Merritt, that course seems to be Detroit Golf Club. Last year, he lost in the playoff to Cam Davis, and that 2nd place finish followed up the 8th place finish from the year before. I mean just look at this ridiculous shot he pulled off last time he was in Detroit

For My Parlay Gurus

We're looking to combine a few different bets for our parlay this week. If we take a few Top-40s and some cut bets on the different golfers we like above, we can get creative with what we're cheering for on both Friday and Sunday. Take a look at who I'm riding with this weekend in Detroit 🤞

  • Kevin Kisner Top-40: -130

  • Cameron Young Top-40: -220

  • Troy Merritt to make the cut: -174

$100 on this bet would win you $305 — if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win 😉
