College Football is BACK, keep an eye on these top teams playing this week 👇 (5 minute read)

College Football is BACK

After almost nine months off, we FINALLY have a full week of College Football. Before we dive into a few of the top games, let’s recap how the 2021 season ended

  • No. 1 Alabama beat No. 4 Notre Dame 31-14

  • No. 3 Ohio State beat No. 2 Clemson 49-28

  • No. 1 Alabama beat No. 3 Ohio State 52-24

  • Nick Saban won his seventh National Championship, breaking the record previously held by Bear Bryant

  • WR DeVonta Smith won Offensive Player of the Game with 215 yards and 3 TDs

Thursday Night: No. 4 Ohio State vs Minnesota

Ohio State has the third-best odds (+600) to take home the College Football Title. Even with several new faces on the offensive end, Vegas is still giving OSU a a massive spread on the road. Expect The Buckeyes to run away with this B1G Ten matchup

What to watch for:

  • Spread: OSU -14

  • Redshirt Freshman C.J. Stroud takes over at QB with Justin Fields heading to Chicago

  • RB Master Teague shared snap duties with Trey Surmon last season, but the backfield is now all his

  • WRs Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson combined for 1,500 receiving yards in 2020, the two enter the season as one of the top WR duos in the country

Friday Night: No. 10 UNC vs Virginia Tech

QB Sam Howell has the fourth-best odds (+950) to win the Heisman Trophy, but UNC will need to win some tough games later in the season for that to happen. The Tar Heels actually take on Florida State, Miami and Notre Dame in three consecutive weeks in October, so a win Friday night is much needed

What to watch for:

  • Spread: UNC -5.5

  • North Carolina defeated Virginia Tech, 56-45, in their last meeting on Oct. 10, 2020

  • UNC’s offense averaged 537 yards and 41.7 PPG last season, but their top two RBs and two top WRs are all in the NFL now

  • Braxton Burmeister is the man under center for the Hokies, after QBs Hendon Hooker and Quincy Patterson transferred out of the program

Saturday Night: No. 5 Georgia vs No. 3 Clemson

Saturday’s most highly anticipated contest has the potential to be FBS preview, as two of the Top 5 teams meet at a neutral site in Charlotte. Having won a championship as recently as 2016 and 2018, Clemson enters the season seeking their fourth chip in school history. Having yet to play a snap, they’re already the heavy favorites (-700) twin their seventh ACC title in a row

What to watch for:

  • Spread: Clemson -3

  • A QB battle for the ages, as highly-recruited JT Daniels leads Georgia’s revamped offense under Todd Monken, while DJ Uiagalelei will try to fill the massive shoes left by Trevor Lawrence

  • Last season, Georgia failed to make the SEC Championship Game for the first time since 2016

  • After watching the film of Ohio State torching Clemson’s secondary in the Sugar Bowl, look for Georgia to dial up some deep shots to WRs Adonai Mitchell, Arian Smith and Jermaine Burton

  • Clemson and Georgia are the 2nd and 3rd rated defenses in the country

Sunday Night: No. 7 Notre Dame vs Florida State

After seeing 14 players head to the NFL this past off-season, Notre Dame enters the 2021 season with many new faces. Jack Coan will get his first start at QB for the Irish, which might lead to a slow start, but expect ND to find its groove and run away with this one

What to watch for:

  • Spread: Notre Dame -7.5

  • FSU has yet to name a starting quarterback, which could be a big reason for the large point-spread in this one

  • ND has multiple preseason All-Americans, and possibly the best running back duo in the country in Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree

  • While the Noles are betting underdogs at home, the line has come down since opening near double-digits

Other Top Games to Watch

No. 19 Penn State vs No. 12 Wisconsin

  • Saturday at 12pm EST

  • Spread: Wisconsin -5.5

No. 17 Indiana vs No. 18 Iowa

  • Saturday at 3:30pm EST

  • Spread: Iowa -3.5

No. 1 Alabama vs No. 14 Miami

  • Saturday at 3:30pm EST

  • Spread: Alabama -18.5

No. 23 Louisiana-Lafayette vs No. 21 Texas

  • Saturday at 4:30pm EST
