BMW Championship Recap

Round two of the FedEx Cup playoffs has concluded, which leaves us with 30 golfers moving on to The Tour Championship. Last week, Patrick Cantlay (the 2021 BMW Championship winner) successfully defended his title as he held off the world's top golfers in Delaware. By claiming the trophy, he enters the final week in great position to claim back-to-back FedEx Cups 🏆

Sadly, a few of the biggest storylines coming into the finals are injury related 🤕

  • First, Will Zalatoris has officially withdrawn from the Tour Championship after dealing with a back injury last week at Wilmington

  • Next, the constant drama surrounding Cam Smith continues with a hip injury, which may prevent him from making a trip to Atlanta

As of now, Smith is set to play. But with rumors swirling that he may be joining the LIV Tour...we'll just have to wait and see what happens 👀

Trivia Question: Who are the only two-time winners of the FedEx Cup? (answer below)

The 2022 Tour Championship

Like recent tradition, the Tour Championship will be played at East Lake Country Club in Atlanta, Georgia. East Lake has been the host of the PGA Tour's final event since 2007, and will once again set the stage for a golfer to claim the Tour's ultimate prize...along with the $18M first place pay-day 💰

  • Only 30 golfers remain and will compete in this no-cut event

  • These 30 golfers will also automatically qualify for next year's four majors

  • The leaderboard will look a little different, with golfers starting with staggered strokes based on their current FedEx Cup standings 👇

Because of this "staggered starting" rule, the odds will look a little different when it comes to betting an outright winner. There will be two ways to place bets, but here is the most common 🧐

  • Scottie Scheffler: +200 (bet $100, win $200)

  • Patrick Cantlay: +380

  • Xander Schaufele: +650

  • Rory McIlroy: +900

  • Jon Rahm: +1400

Golfers To Target

The staggered strokes format for the Tour Championship was introduced in 2019, and as history has taught us, one of the Top-3 golfers will likely win the title on Sunday. While it's very possible for someone to come from four or five strokes back to win, we have yet to see it happen 🤫

  • For this reason, it makes more sense to bet golfers without the starting strokes included, which levels the playing field for all 30 competing

  • Below are those odds for some of the golfers I'd target this weekend

🏌️ Xander Schaufele: +750

  • This is Schaufele's fifth time competing in the Tour Championship, and he's never finished worse than seventh

  • He's finished in the Top-20 in eight of his last nine starts

  • Schaufele is currently in fourth place in the FedEx Cup standings 💪

🏌️ Tony Finau: +1600

  • Still one of the hottest golfers on tour, Finau has two wins in his last four starts

  • He's in the Top-10 in most key stats, including Approach, Driving and Putting

  • This is Finau's sixth time making it to the Tour Championship, which gives him an edge in terms of experience 🧠

🏌️ Scott Stallings: +9000

  • Stallings has finished 13th or better in five of his last six starts, including a runner-up finish last week

  • In this field, he is highly ranked in both Short Game and Approach

  • Starting the week at -3, Stallings will need to attack pins early to make his way up the leaderboard ⬆️

Favorite Bets

With such a limited field and staggered scoring, betting outrights can be kind of tricky. Because of this, I'll be laying out some of my favorite bets for the week instead of cooking up a parlay for you 👇

⛳️ Scott Stallings Top-10: +240

  • Stallings is starting one stroke outside the Top-10, and for the run he's been on lately, I expect him to climb the leaderboard quickly and move into the top third of the field

⛳️ Rory McIlroy Top-5: +115

  • McIlroy begins the week tied for fifth in the staggered standings, meaning he just needs to maintain where he currently sits to finish inside the Top-5

⛳️ Max Homa Top-5: +850

  • Homa has two wins on the PGA Tour this year and will be making his first trip to East Lake. He starts two strokes back of what would be the Top-5, which is almost nothing stretched out over four days

If Stallings, McIlroy or Homa get the win on Sunday, email [email protected] for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win 😉
